Job Description

Job Title: Lead Microwave Research Scientist. Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States

IonQ is seeking a Lead Microwave Research Scientist to join a cross-functional team focused on developing next-generation quantum hardware; In this role, you will lead the design, fabrication, and testing of microwave circuits used for qubit control, and help scale these technologies to foundry-level production.

Responsibilities:

• Translate system-level architecture requirements into component-level specifications and design rules
• Design microwave circuits with attention to performance targets, fabrication limits, and system interactions
• Fabricate and test microwave devices for quantum control applications
• Lead efforts to scale fabrication and testing through external foundries
• Manage and maintain relationships with external vendors;
• Collaborate with internal testing and measurement teams to validate device performance
• Support integration of microwave circuits with optical and electronic subsystems

Qualifications:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field
• 5 or more years of hands-on experience fabricating microwave devices
• Proven experience working on large, cross-disciplinary research or engineering projects
• Strong background in microwave circuit design and testing

Preferred:

• Experience securing independent funding for new research initiatives
• Experience hiring, mentoring, and training research or engineering teams
• Knowledge of cryogenic testing and cryogenic system operation;
• Familiarity with distributed quantum computing, quantum sensing, or quantum networking architectures

Compensation and Benefits:

• Base salary range: $141,670 to $185,482 USD
• Total compensation includes base salary, performance bonus, and equity
• Compensation depends on location, experience, and job-related skills
