Performance Engineering Intern

Job Description

Job Title: Performance Engineering Intern, Deep Learning and HPC. Location: Santa Clara, California, United States
Internship Duration: Minimum 8 months
Start Term: Winter 2026

The internship offers hands-on experience working with advanced computing systems that support fields such as deep learning, scientific research and quantum chemistry.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute GPU performance benchmarks for deep learning and HPC applications
  • Test a wide range of frameworks and workloads across NVIDIA and competing hardware platforms
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize performance data in written and visual reports
  • Develop Python scripts to automate benchmarking and testing workflows;
  • Collaborate with software and hardware engineering teams to debug performance issues
  • Learn and evaluate modern deep learning and HPC tools and applications
  • Assist in improving internal tools and processes for automated performance testing

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong programming and debugging skills in Python or Unix shell scripting;
  • Advanced experience working with Linux systems, preferably Ubuntu or CentOS
  • Ability to compile software from source code and resolve build or runtime errors
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills;
  • Proven ability to analyze data and clearly summarize findings in reports
  • Familiarity with container platforms such as Docker or Singularity

Preferred:

  • Experience with GPU-enabled deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MXNet, or TensorRT
  • Experience running GPU-based HPC applications such as LAMMPS, GROMACS, Amber, or similar tools
  • Exposure to GPU or CPU benchmarking on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • GPU programming experience using CUDA, OpenACC, or OpenCL;
  • Familiarity with software compilers such as GNU, Intel, or PGI
  • Prior experience working with compute clusters, Slurm, or Kubernetes

  • Hourly pay ranging from 20 USD to 71 USD, based on location, education level, and experience
