Job Type: Research Fellowship (PhD Student Research Program / Internship & Apprentice)
Responsibilities:
- Participate in research projects aligned with Google's scientific and technological priorities.
- Conduct exploratory research focused on solving real-world, large-scale challenges.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and scientists across Google teams;
- Contribute to the development of innovative technologies and next-generation intelligent systems.
- Apply advanced computer science and research methodologies to scientific problems.
- Support research initiatives across organizations including Google Research, Google DeepMind, Google Cloud, and related teams.
- Work on projects involving areas such as:
- Machine Learning
- Deep Learning
- Natural Language Understanding
- Computer Vision
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Data Science
- Software Engineering
- Optimization Algorithms
- Quantum Information Science
- Collaborate with academic and industry researchers to advance scientific knowledge and technology development.
- Contribute to breakthrough research that improves products, services, and computing capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD degree program in:
- Computer Science
- Linguistics
- Statistics
- Biostatistics
- Applied Mathematics
- Operations Research
- Economics
- Natural Sciences
- Or a related technical field
- Experience in at least one computer science research area, including:
- Machine Learning
- Deep Learning
- Natural Language Understanding
- Computer Vision
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Data Science
- Software Engineering
- Algorithmic Optimization
- Quantum Information Science
- Related research disciplines
Preferred:
- Enrolled full-time in a degree program and returning to studies after completing the research engagement.
- Currently attending a university in the United States.
- Previous research experience through:
- Research laboratories
- Internships
- Academic projects
- Full-time research positions
- Experience contributing to research communities through publications in conferences or journals.
- Experience with one or more programming languages, including:
- Python
- Java
- JavaScript
- C/C++
- Similar programming languages
Benefits and Compensation:
- Annualized salary range: $118,000 - $157,000 USD
- Compensation is based on skills, experience, education, and relevant training.

- Typical start dates fall between January and July;
- Participants may be considered for research opportunities across Google organizations, including Google Research, Google DeepMind, Google Cloud, and other research teams.
