Advisory Data Scientist - Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Advisory Data Scientist, IBM Quantum. Location: Research Triangle Park, NC, Yorktown Heights, NY, New York, NY, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex datasets related to quantum device adoption, platform usage, product adoption, and community engagement to generate actionable business insights.
  • Design, build, and scale analytical data models and semantic layers that support self-service analytics, reporting, and advanced analysis.
  • Define, standardize, and operationalize key business metrics and KPIs across IBM Quantum.
  • Develop curated datasets, dashboards, and analytics tools that enable stakeholders to independently explore trusted data;
  • Build, maintain, and improve scalable analytical pipelines and workflows that ensure reliable, reproducible, and high-quality insights.
  • Collaborate with product, quantum hardware, software, engineering, leadership, and client-facing teams to translate business and technical requirements into analytical solutions.
  • Apply statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities that support strategic decision-making.
  • Transform complex multi-source data into meaningful insights that guide product strategy, executive decisions, and customer success initiatives.
  • Promote trusted, governed, and accessible analytics throughout IBM Quantum.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in data science, analytics, or analytics engineering.
  • Strong SQL skills, including PostgreSQL, Presto/Trino, or similar technologies.
  • Strong Python programming skills for data analysis and statistical modeling using libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and SciPy.
  • Experience designing and implementing analytical data models, including dimensional models, semantic layers, and curated datasets.
  • Experience building and maintaining production-grade analytical pipelines using orchestration tools such as Airflow;
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Tableau, Superset, or Cognos Analytics.
  • Experience defining, standardizing, and maintaining business and operational metrics.
  • Familiarity with analytics engineering best practices, including Git, documentation, testing, and modular development.
  • Experience applying statistical techniques including hypothesis testing, exploratory data analysis, and trend analysis.
  • Experience working with heterogeneous datasets.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Familiarity with Lakehouse architectures and platforms such as IBM watsonx.data.
  • Experience with machine learning workflows, including feature engineering, model evaluation, and deployment.
  • Understanding of data governance concepts including metric definitions, lineage, data contracts, and access controls.
  • Experience working in cloud or distributed computing environments;
  • Familiarity with streaming data technologies such as Kafka and event-driven architectures.
  • Interest in or exposure to quantum computing, advanced hardware systems, or emerging technologies.

  • Salary range: $144,000 to $248,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and location.

Other Information:

  • Work arrangement: Hybrid.
  • Travel requirement: Up to 20% (approximately one day per week).
