Job Description
Job Title: PhD Intern - Trapped-Ion Quantum Computing Theory. Location: Broomfield, Colorado, USA
Responsibilities:
- Apply research experience to measure and improve quantum computers using trapped ions as qubits.
- Collaborate with scientists to develop and implement new concepts in quantum computing;
- Collect data on system performance, characterize device characteristics, and propose methods for improvements.
- Support experiments and research activities in a highly technical, research-focused environment.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program, graduating on or after December 2026.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or green card holder; asylum/refugee status accepted).
- Must not be a national of the People’s Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (national security requirement);
- Strong background in atomic physics, quantum benchmarking, quantum information, or quantum computing (2+ years’ experience including PhD).
- Experience in simulation and modeling to support experiments.
- Familiarity with constructing quantum circuits.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; record of published research preferred.
Preferred:
- Additional experience with quantum algorithms or benchmarking tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Hourly wage: $24 – $35.
- Non-incentive eligible.
- Housing stipend up to $1,000/month for candidates relocating from outside Colorado.
