Principal Product Manager

Job Description

Job Title: Principal Product Manager. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA, or Mountain View, California, USA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 3 days per week in-office

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the product vision for AI-driven scientific discovery platforms, helping researchers accelerate scientific work and achieve reliable results.
  • Develop Microsoft Discovery's academic and research partnership strategy by identifying priority research scenarios, building strategic relationships, and establishing engagement plans and success metrics.
  • Expand relationships with academic institutions, research organizations, innovation partners, and industry stakeholders by aligning goals, coordinating execution, and addressing adoption barriers;
  • Build proof-of-concept solutions, sample tools, connectors, and AI agents to demonstrate partner use cases and help external partners get started with Microsoft Discovery.
  • Turn successful prototypes into reusable examples, technical guidance, and resources for partners.
  • Lead the onboarding of independent software vendor (ISV) tools into Microsoft Discovery by working with partner developers and internal engineering teams to prototype integrations, troubleshoot technical issues, and validate end-to-end scientific workflows.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers, scientists, and researchers to develop product experiences and underlying AI capabilities.
  • Develop marketing and product rollout plans, create customer support plans, and promote product features at major events.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to collect performance metrics, develop hypotheses, and address complex technical requirements to improve products.
  • Identify features to discontinue when appropriate, manage customer communities, and build trust with customers across different sectors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in product, service, project, or program management, or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft's security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience in product, service, project, or program management, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading academic or research partnerships and translating partner needs into product priorities, joint delivery plans, and sustained adoption.
  • Experience integrating third-party software tools through APIs, SDKs, or AI agent integrations, including hands-on prototyping and technical support for external developers.
  • At least 4 years of experience shipping production-ready code through collaborative development processes.
  • Experience as a full-stack developer.
  • Experience using the latest AI-assisted development tools and systems.
  • Experience with enterprise products, product adoption, and taking new products from initial development to scale.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Annual base salary: $142,800 to $274,800 across most US locations.
  • San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $188,000 to $304,200 annually.
