Principal Quantum Compiler Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Lead / Principal Quantum Compiler Engineer. Location: Broomfield, Colorado, USA. Work Model: On-site with up to 2 days per week remote (with approval)

You will work closely with physicists, compiler experts, and software engineers to design scalable, high-performance compiler systems that unlock the full potential of quantum hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical vision, architecture, and implementation of quantum compiler systems
  • Design and oversee compiler front-end, back-end, and optimization pipelines
  • Develop quantum languages, machine-specific targeting, and optimization passes;
  • Build advanced heuristics and algorithms for ion routing across complex hardware topologies
  • Optimize quantum circuit execution speed and efficiency
  • Collaborate across disciplines with physicists and engineers to solve complex problems
  • Mentor engineers and provide long-term technical leadership within the compiler team
  • Contribute high-quality production and research code in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Promote engineering best practices, code quality, and testing standards;
  • Engage with industry partners to help shape compiler standards for future quantum systems

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD degree required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering, lab, or R&D environment
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on compiler infrastructure development experience
  • At least 2 years of experience building compilers for quantum computers;
  • Must be a U.S. person due to government and contractual requirements
  • Must not be a PRC or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen

Preferred:

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10 or more years of programming experience (Python, Rust, C++, or similar)
  • Experience working with the LLVM toolchain;
  • Strong background in algorithm design and complex optimization problems
  • Experience leading compiler-focused R&D teams
  • Rust development experience, especially with LLVM or optimization pipelines
  • Knowledge of graph, tree, SAT, and machine learning algorithms;
  • Experience with MLIR or other intermediate representations
  • Background in heuristic and application-specific algorithm development
  • Proficiency with software testing, CI, and deployment tools
