Research Scientist - TS/SCI (FSP)

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist - TS/SCI (FSP). Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and deliver AI solutions using advanced technologies, with a focus on foundation models and large language models.
  • Work with tools such as GitHub Copilot and Amazon CodeWhisperer.
  • Develop cognitive solutions that process and analyze both structured and unstructured data.
  • Apply advanced analytics, natural language processing, and machine learning methods to complex problems.
  • Manage the full AI project lifecycle, from research and prototyping through production deployment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to solve complex business and technical problems using artificial intelligence.
  • Apply strong programming skills and proficiency in Python and AI frameworks;
  • Optimize AI solutions in areas such as NLP, image processing, video processing, voice processing, or Watson technologies.
  • Conduct research involving algorithms, architectures, and technologies relevant to future computing systems.
  • Contribute to prototype development for emerging computing technologies.
  • Research circuit and system fabrication techniques supporting system and component miniaturization.
  • Investigate critical open problems in quantum information science and technology and low-power solid-state devices.
  • Conduct materials characterization of point-defect systems that leverage quantum phenomena.
  • Plan, design, develop, and execute scientific studies.
  • Communicate research findings and technical results through presentations and written documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support client-focused research initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in science and applied research in one of the relevant technical disciplines.
  • At least 2 years of experience in one or more applicable applied research areas, including:
    • Algorithms, architectures, and technologies for future computing systems and prototype development.
    • Circuit and system fabrication techniques for system and component miniaturization.
    • Quantum information science and technology.
    • Low-power solid-state devices.
    • Materials characterization of point-defect systems that leverage quantum phenomena.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and conducting research and executing scientific studies.
  • Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work five days per week in a SCIF in College Park, Maryland.
  • TS/SCI clearance and full-scope polygraph required on Day 1.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience authoring and publishing applied research papers.
  • Experience as a patent holder.
  • Experience supporting federal clients in defense, intelligence, or national security environments.
  • Knowledge of classified data environments and secure data-handling practices.

  • Projected annual salary range of $144,000 to $268,000.
