Job Title: Student Researcher, PhD, Winter-Summer 2027. Location: Mountain View, CA, USA; Ann Arbor, MI, USA; Atlanta, TX, and other listed U.S. locations

Responsibilities:

• Participate in research projects focused on developing solutions to real-world, large-scale problems.
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and scientists across Google research teams.
• Explore innovative research challenges and contribute to scientific advancement;
• Work on projects across areas such as machine learning, computer vision, optimization, data science, software engineering, and Quantum Information Science.
• Contribute to research projects across Google Research, DeepMind, Google Cloud, and other research teams.
• Apply computer science and research techniques to develop new technologies and advance the state of the art.
• Contribute to research that may support the development of intelligent systems and technologies used across Google products.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Natural Sciences, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated experience in at least one computer science or technical research area, such as:
  • Natural Language Understanding
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Computer Vision
  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization
  • Quantum Information Science
  • Data Science
  • Software Engineering
  • Related technical areas
• Demonstrated research focus through publications, specialized laboratory work, or significant research contributions.
• Ability to provide an updated CV or resume including anticipated graduation date.
• Current unofficial or official transcript in English.

Preferred:

• Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and planning to return to the program after the engagement.
• Currently attending a degree program in the United States.
• Previous research experience through internships, full-time research positions, or laboratory work.
• Experience contributing to research communities through publications or other research efforts.
• Publications in major conferences or journals;
• Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C, or C++.

Benefits and Compensation:

• U.S. compensation range: $118,000 to $157,000 USD.
• 0% bonus target.
• Health, dental, and vision insurance for eligible U.S.-based interns.
• 40 hours of sick time per year, increasing to 69 hours per year in Seattle.
• 13 paid holidays per year.
• Additional benefits may be available through Google's comprehensive benefits program.

Other Information:

• Typical start dates are between January and August 2027.
• The role is intended for students who will remain enrolled in a PhD program during the engagement.

• Candidates must be located in the United States for the duration of the engagement. Select remote arrangements from within the United States or Canada may be permitted depending on project requirements'
• Candidates residing outside the United States may need to relocate to the United States for the engagement.
