Senior Software Engineer, Quantum

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer, Quantum. Location: Goleta, CA, Seattle, WA, USA

As a Senior Software Engineer, Quantum, you will design and build high-quality software systems that support quantum computing research and production-scale platforms; You will work on critical projects, collaborate across teams, and help shape the future of quantum computing at Google.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software systems used in quantum computing projects.
  • Own project goals, timelines, and technical direction for both short-term and long-term initiatives.
  • Lead and contribute to software projects that span multiple quarters with minimal supervision.
  • Write, review, and maintain high-quality code that follows best engineering practices;
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability through optimization and testing.
  • Review designs and incorporate feedback to decide when to enhance existing systems or build new ones.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, electronics engineers, and research scientists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages.
  • At least 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
  • At least 1 year of experience in software design and system architecture.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role;
  • Experience building accessible and inclusive technologies.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • $166,000 to $244,000 per year
  • Bonus, equity, and benefits are offered in addition to base salary
