Job Title: Senior Advanced Photonics Scientist
Location:
- Broomfield, Colorado, USA
- Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
This role focuses on the design, development, and delivery of advanced photonic integrated circuits and optical systems that support both commercial and research quantum computing platforms; The position is based on-site in Broomfield, Colorado or Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team of physicists and optical engineers developing quantum computing systems
- Design and develop integrated photonic components to generate, route, and control light across different wavelengths
- Collaborate with teams across architecture, physics, photonics, fabrication, and mechanical engineering
- Translate system-level technical requirements into clear design and execution plans;
- Design novel photonic integrated circuit components to meet strict performance targets
- Create layouts for test photonic integrated circuits and support fabrication and testing efforts
- Analyze test results to validate photonic component performance;
- Lead photonic integrated circuit development activities with internal teams and external vendors
- Ensure timely delivery of key photonic demonstrators and system components
Qualifications:
- PhD degree (required)
- Minimum 6 years of experience in photonic integrated circuit design using simulation tools such as Lumerical, RSoft, or similar tools
- Experience with guided-mode and FDTD solvers
- Experience using layout tools such as KLayout, GDSFactory, or similar
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience building, using, and maintaining optical or photonic systems
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or granted asylum or refugee status)
- Must meet U.S. national security requirements
Preferred:
- PhD in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with design-for-manufacturing practices
- Hands-on experience with photonics fabrication processes and metrology
- Knowledge of materials used in visible photonic circuits and optical systems;
- Experience in product development involving photonic design, fabrication, or packaging
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering and science teams
- Experience leading and mentoring small technical teams
- Strong understanding of optical principles and practical applications
- Programming experience in Python, Matlab, or C;
- Experience with optical testing, data collection, analysis, and interpretation
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Range: $140,000 to $175,000 per year
- Final compensation depends on experience, education, and skills
