Job Title: Applied Scientist, Quantum Algorithms, Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA
Job Type: Full-Time (Research Role)
Responsibilities:
- Conduct theoretical research on applications of fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Develop new quantum algorithms and explore novel application areas.
- Analyze and optimize existing quantum algorithms in areas such as quantum simulation, chemistry, optimization, and machine learning.
- Collaborate with internal teams, academic partners, and stakeholders to advance quantum computing applications.
- Provide subject matter expertise on quantum algorithms and communicate findings across teams.
- Work closely with the Quantum Error Correction team to understand interactions between algorithms and error correction.
- Lead and contribute to high-impact research projects aligned with engineering roadmaps;
- Perform resource estimation to evaluate the cost of executing quantum algorithms on specific hardware architectures.
- Write technical reports, publish research papers, and present findings at conferences.
- Mentor research interns and support their scientific projects.
Qualifications:
- PhD (completed or in progress) in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong background in quantum algorithms and their applications for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
- Experience publishing in top-tier conferences or journals;
- Knowledge in areas such as algorithms, data structures, numerical optimization, high-performance computing, or distributed systems.
- Experience leading collaborative research projects from concept to delivery.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Programming experience in Python, Java, or C++.
- Expertise in quantum application domains such as quantum chemistry, simulation, machine learning, optimization, cryptography, sensing, or differential equations.
- Deep understanding of quantum error correction and its impact on algorithm execution.
- Experience with high-performance computing or machine learning techniques;
- Experience performing resource estimation for quantum applications on specific hardware architectures.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Salary range:
- Pasadena, CA: $142,800 – $193,200 per year
- San Francisco, CA: $171,600 – $222,200 per year
- Additional compensation includes sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs).
