Engineer, Quantum Integrated Circuit Design

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Engineer, Quantum Integrated Circuit Design and Simulation Automation. Location: Berkeley, CA

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain software systems that automate the quantum integrated circuit design workflow.
• Develop and manage classical electromagnetic simulations of quantum devices and support the diagonalization of the quantum device Hamiltonian.
• Speed up simulations for high performance compute clusters, including GPU acceleration when needed;
• Create optimization tools that connect to the automated workflow to improve key performance factors such as loss and crosstalk;
• Use computational modeling to deepen understanding of current processor designs and help shape future architectures.
• Work closely with design and simulation engineers to find and fix bottlenecks in the workflow.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related area.
• Strong background in computational electromagnetics, numerical methods, and commercial tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or CST Microwave Studio.
• Experience with high performance computing;
• Knowledge of modern computational optimization techniques.
• Strong Python programming experience for scientific work;
• Understanding of quantum mechanics, especially circuit quantum electrodynamics.
• Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
• Strong communication skills.

Nice to Have:

• Industry or startup experience in a technical role.
• Experience or knowledge in radio-frequency engineering, superconducting physics, Josephson junction physics, integrated circuit design, or superconducting qubits.

Salary and Benefits:

• Base salary range: 170000 to 205000 per year.
• Final pay depends on experience, skills, and location;
