Quantum Engineer I

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Engineer I. Location: New Haven, CT, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement large-scale superconducting qubit architectures.
  • Develop and test quantum devices and hardware components for gate-model quantum systems.
  • Work on production quantum processing units (QPUs) and improve system uptime for users.
  • Perform research on quantum control and calibration techniques for dual-rail cavity qubit systems.
  • Contribute to quantum error correction and fault-tolerant computing research;
  • Support development of scalable quantum architectures for near-term and large-scale systems.
  • Execute projects from concept through validation in both independent and team settings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional physics and engineering teams on hardware and system design.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Quantum Computing, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or Bachelor’s with equivalent experience).
  • Strong background in quantum device design, physics, or electromagnetic modeling;
  • Experience in materials loss analysis, cryogenics, wiring, or quantum measurement systems.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, C/C++, Julia, Rust, or similar).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience in superconducting qubit systems and quantum control.
  • Knowledge of quantum measurement and calibration techniques;
  • Familiarity with fault-tolerant quantum computing and error-corrected systems.
  • Hands-on experience in research or industrial quantum development projects.
