Quantum Engineer II

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Engineer II. Location: New Haven, CT, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement large-scale superconducting qubit architectures.
  • Develop and test advanced quantum hardware devices and components.
  • Contribute to production-grade Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and improve system uptime.
  • Perform research on quantum control and calibration for dual-rail cavity qubits.
  • Work on quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computing systems.
  • Support pathfinding research for scalable quantum architectures;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and physics teams.
  • Contribute to both theoretical and experimental quantum engineering projects.
  • Execute end-to-end research projects from concept to validation.
  • Analyze device performance using scientific programming and data tools.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Quantum Computing, Physics, or related experimental field OR Master’s with equivalent industry or research experience.
  • Strong background in quantum device physics, E&M modeling, or quantum hardware systems.
  • Experience in cryogenics, quantum measurement, or materials loss analysis.
  • Strong scientific programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Julia, Rust, or similar).
  • Ability to independently design and execute research projects;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams across physics and engineering domains.

Preferred:

  • Experience in quantum control systems or calibration techniques.
  • Background in error-corrected quantum systems or fault-tolerant architectures;
  • Experience working with superconducting or cavity-based qubit systems.
  • Strong initiative in research-driven environments.

  • Base salary range: $86,800 – $130,300 USD (depending on experience and location).
