Job Description

Job Title: Experimental Physicist – Quantum Hardware. Location: Golden Valley, MN, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and validate quantum computing systems using trapped ions as qubits.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to test and refine hardware designs.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to characterize system behavior and improve qubit performance.
  • Perform design trade studies, simulations, and system analysis;
  • Present scientific findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics or a related field completed prior to start date.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience (including PhD research) in experimental quantum physics, particularly in one or more of the following:
    • Quantum information science
    • Atomic or optical physics
    • Precision spectroscopy
    • Optics and laser systems
    • Cryogenic systems
    • Ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems
    • Low-noise electronics
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected refugee/asylee).
  • Must not be a national of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (per U.S. Government national security restrictions).

Preferred:

  • Experience designing or operating quantum information processing devices.
  • Expertise in laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
  • Familiarity with simulation and modeling for experimental design;
  • Proficiency in programming experimental control systems (e.g., Python).
  • Strong publication record and communication skills;
  • Experience in postdoctoral research or technical leadership roles.
