Job Description
Job Title: Applied Scientist, Quantum Device Packaging and Environment R&D. Location: Pasadena, CA, USA
Responsibilities:
- Lead research and development of packaging and environmental solutions for superconducting quantum devices.
- Design, model, and test packaging systems for quantum devices, including electromagnetic and mechanical modeling.
- Characterize packaging performance at cryogenic temperatures.
- Develop environmental test standards to measure DC and microwave qubit environments.
- Ensure reproducible and accurate assessment of environmental effects on qubit decoherence and loss.
- Automate data collection processes and build reporting pipelines for scalable device characterization.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, PCB designers, and circuit designers to reduce environmental noise and improve qubit performance.
- Identify and mitigate sources of integration uncertainty in off-chip environments;
- Contribute to multi-year roadmap planning for packaging and environmental capabilities.
- Stay updated with advancements in quantum hardware packaging and cryogenic measurement science.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in cryogenic packaging design, microwave engineering, or quantum hardware characterization.
- Strong programming experience in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages;
- Experience with patents or publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
- Familiarity with cryogenic systems and low-temperature measurement environments.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with superconducting quantum device packaging.
- Deep understanding of decoherence and loss mechanisms in superconducting qubit systems.
- Experience working with Unix/Linux systems;
- Background in professional software development.
- Proven ability to drive R&D projects from concept to hardware demonstration.

- Salary range: $142,800 to $193,200 per year, based on experience and location.
