Job Description
Job Title: Senior Field Engineer – US Public Sector and Enterprise. Location: Remote, United States
Responsibilities:
- Explain IonQ’s quantum strategy, product portfolio, and applications to prospective clients across computing, networking, sensing, security, and space domains.
- Lead client discussions and demonstrate how quantum applications can be implemented in various business domains.
- Map business needs to quantum algorithms across industries such as financial services, bioscience, chemistry, materials, optimization, and generative AI.
- Develop and execute proof-of-concepts in collaboration with the IonQ Application team;
- Translate client requirements into technical projects in collaboration with engineering and product teams.
- Share client insights with Product Management and Engineering to improve products.
- Handle competitive positioning and objections during client engagements.
- Create technical assets and materials to explain quantum applications and products.
- Guide engagements from initial ideation through proof-of-concept to production workflows.
- Lead discovery sessions to identify business use cases aligned with quantum solutions;
- Collaborate with marketing, developer relations, and business development to expand market awareness.
- Participate in industry conferences, client meetings, and booth activities.
- Travel up to 20 percent domestically, with opportunities for international travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related STEM field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in technical customer-facing roles or similar capacity;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work across technical and business teams.
- Strong interest in quantum computing and emerging technologies.
Preferred:
- Master’s or PhD in a STEM field related to quantum computing.
- Experience working on the customer side across different industries, including leadership roles.
- Hands-on experience with quantum SDKs such as Qiskit or Cirq;
- Proficiency in Python and Jupyter Notebooks.
- Strong system architecture or full-stack technical skills.
- Experience leading technical events, workshops, or presentations.
