Metasurface Optical Design Intern

Job Description

Job Title: Metasurface Optical Design Intern. Location: Broomfield, CO

Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, and optimize meta-optic devices within larger optical systems.
  • Work with photonics and optics teams to develop new and impactful photonic devices.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a Physics or Engineering PhD program with planned graduation on or after December 2026.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, asylum or refugee status);
  • Due to national security rules, candidates cannot be PRC or Russian nationals unless they are also U.S. citizens.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, as this is a safety-sensitive role.

Preferred:

  • At least 3 years of experience (PhD inclusive) in computational modeling of photonic devices.
  • Experience with adjoint optimization and inverse design.
  • Experience with metasurface modeling and design;
  • Experience using tools such as COMSOL or other FEM tools, Lumerical or other FDTD tools, and RCWA tools.
  • Experience with scientific coding tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across groups.
  • Openness to learning new methods and software;
  • Must return to degree program after the internship.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay range: 40 to 50 per hour.
  • Non-incentive eligible;
  • Pay varies based on skills, education, and experience.
  • Housing stipend of up to 1000 per month for candidates outside the state.
