Quantum Computing Libraries Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Computing Libraries Engineer. Location: Santa Clara, CA, USA - New York, NY, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, and optimize GPU-accelerated algorithms across multiple hardware generations.
  • Develop innovative high-performance computing (HPC) algorithms to scale quantum circuit simulations.
  • Design and build high-performance software libraries for quantum computing and quantum system simulations;
  • Collaborate closely with NVIDIA Research, Developer Technology, and Product Management teams on quantum computing, HPC, and machine learning initiatives.
  • Work with external partners and researchers to understand technical requirements and use cases.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
  • Analyze the performance of GPU, CPU, multi-GPU, and multi-node implementations to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Improve algorithmic efficiency and software implementation performance for large-scale quantum simulations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong C++ and Python programming skills with experience in software design, functional testing, and performance testing.
  • Experience programming GPUs in multi-threaded and multi-node MPI environments.
  • Expertise in hardware-aware optimization techniques.
  • Experience using agentic coding tools;
  • Demonstrated experience developing scientific software for quantum simulations, such as circuit simulators, compilers, or hybrid computing systems.
  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related engineering/science field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with quantum computing and deep learning frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, TensorFlow, TNQVM, or PyTorch.
  • Proven experience with HPC technologies and communication algorithms.
  • Expertise in numerical methods, Hamiltonian integrals, and quantum simulation techniques;
  • Experience working in agile software development environments within globally distributed organizations.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range:
    • Level 4: $184,000–$287,500 USD annually
    • Level 5: $224,000–$356,500 USD annually
