Quantum EDA Software Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum EDA Software Engineer. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States

Responsibilities:

  • Develop user-friendly and robust software tools for quantum hardware design and simulation.
  • Support the design of quantum processors and test-site modules for superconducting quantum technology.
  • Contribute to architecture development for quantum hardware design methodologies.
  • Work on verification and validation of tools using software engineering best practices;
  • Provide debugging and active support for end users of internal EDA tools.
  • Collaborate with multiple technical and operations teams across IBM Quantum.
  • Participate in improving routing, circuit optimization, and hardware design workflows.
  • Help build and maintain scalable internal software infrastructure for quantum processor development.
  • Contribute to design automation workflows used in IBM’s quantum processing unit development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • High proficiency with Linux environments.
  • Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals.
  • Experience with git version control;
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong spatial reasoning and quantitative geometric thinking ability.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Tcl, C++, or Rust.
  • Familiarity with EDA tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Keysight;
  • Experience in routing, circuit optimization, or hardware design automation.
  • Exposure to quantum computing hardware or superconducting systems.
  • Understanding of large-scale engineering software systems.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Annual salary range: $108,000 to $202,000 depending on experience and location.
