Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Scientist – Algorithms. Location: United States
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
- Optimize quantum algorithms by reducing qubit requirements, circuit depth, and gate complexity.
- Identify and explore high-value applications in quantum chemistry and materials science.
- Perform resource estimation to evaluate scalability and feasibility of quantum algorithms;
- Collaborate with industry, academic, and government partners on applied quantum solutions.
- Work with quantum error correction and compilation teams to adapt algorithms to fault-tolerant architectures.
- Contribute to the development of quantum software tools, especially within the PennyLane ecosystem.
- Publish research papers, technical reports, and documentation;
- Support intellectual property creation including patents.
- Present research findings at conferences and to external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Engineering, or related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong research background in quantum computing demonstrated through publications, patents, or technical contributions.
- Deep understanding of quantum algorithms including:
- Hamiltonian simulation
- Trotter methods
- Quantum signal processing
- Linear combination of unitaries
- Amplitude amplification
- Quantum phase estimation
- Knowledge of quantum chemistry and materials science methods such as:
- Coupled cluster methods
- DMRG
- Active space techniques
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage independent research work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in quantum chemistry simulations and spectroscopy.
- Knowledge of quantum embedding methods and battery-related quantum applications.
- Experience with resource estimation for fault-tolerant quantum algorithms;
- Background working with industry or government research collaborations.
- Strong Python programming skills with experience in scientific computing libraries.
- Understanding of quantum error correction and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Experience with quantum compilation techniques.
