Job Description

Job Title: Senior Research Scientist, Applications & Algorithms. Location: Los Angeles

As a Senior Research Scientist on the Applications and Algorithms team, you will work on designing and building quantum algorithms for near-term quantum hardware; Your work will contribute directly to Q-CTRL’s product suite and help demonstrate real-world value from quantum computing.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement efficient solutions for real quantum hardware
Stay current on developments in quantum computing and control theory;
Apply concepts from control theory, machine learning, optimization, and data analysis
Optimize algorithms for near-term quantum devices, including quantum error correction
Translate research into production-ready software in collaboration with engineering
Collect and act on user feedback to improve product functionality;
Present research clearly to both technical and general audiences
Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at industry conferences
Collaborate with industry and academic research partners
Use Python-based tools like Qiskit, NumPy, Scipy, Networkx, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn

Qualifications:

PhD (preferred) or advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics
Strong experience with quantum algorithms (e.g., simulation, optimization, error correction, QML)
Proven research record (publications, presentations);
Solid Python programming experience for scientific computing
Familiarity with Qiskit and executing circuits

Preferred:

Experience with Rust, C++, Julia
Knowledge of GPU/TPU acceleration;
Background in control theory, optimization, machine learning;
Familiarity with noise mitigation and pulse-level optimization in quantum systems
Strong scientific communication and visualization abilities
