Research Scientist, Quantum Control

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, Quantum Control. Location: Los Angeles, Hybrid

Your work will include developing robust control techniques and collaborating with engineering teams to turn research ideas into high-quality software; You will contribute to both internal product development and the broader quantum research community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop methods to solve real-world problems on quantum computers.
  • Stay updated on the latest research in quantum computing and control.
  • Apply knowledge from control theory, optimization, ML, and data analysis.
  • Optimize quantum algorithms and error correction schemes;
  • Write clean, reliable code (mainly in Python) for research and production use.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement algorithms in Q-CTRL software.
  • Collect user feedback and use it to improve our tools;
  • Communicate findings through clear presentations, papers, and talks.
  • Contribute to open-source efforts and scientific publications.
  • Use tools such as Qiskit, PyTorch, NumPy, Scipy, and others in your daily work.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, CS, or related field.
  • Strong background in quantum computing, especially in quantum control and error suppression.
  • Proven research experience with publications or notable presentations;
  • Skilled in Python or other scientific languages like Julia, Matlab, or Mathematica.
  • Familiar with software development practices and scientific computing.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Rust, C++, or Julia.
  • Knowledge of hardware-accelerated computing (GPUs, TPUs).
  • Familiarity with quantum error mitigation techniques like dynamical decoupling, Pauli twirling, or zero-noise extrapolation.
  • Experience running circuits using Qiskit;
  • Strong communication and outreach skills.
