Job Description
Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist – Quantum Error Correction Team. Location: Pasadena, California, USA
In this role, you will develop advanced quantum error correction protocols and simulation tools to support the development of a fault-tolerant quantum computer; You'll work closely with engineers and experimental scientists in a collaborative, high-impact environment located in a state-of-the-art facility next to Caltech.
Responsibilities:
- Design and evaluate new quantum error correction codes and fault-tolerant protocols.
- Develop architectures optimized for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
- Lead and contribute to experimental implementations of quantum fault-tolerance.
- Build simulation and modeling software tools for realistic noise models;
- Drive collaborative research projects aligned with the engineering roadmap.
- Integrate theoretical work with experimental platforms through close coordination with system and control stack engineers.
- Design fault-tolerance strategies tailored for specific quantum algorithms.
A Day in the Life:
- Conduct independent and team-based research on error correction.
- Join seminars and conferences in collaboration with Caltech to stay current in the field.
- Work directly with experimental teams to boost the logical performance of quantum processors.
- Translate system-level requirements into workable models and protocols;
- Participate in strategic planning, technical discussions, and joint innovation sessions.
Qualifications:
- PhD in physics, applied physics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proven expertise in quantum error correction;
- Strong programming experience in scientific computing environments.
- Effective communicator with a track record of collaborative projects.
Preferred:
- Deep knowledge of quantum codes, decoding algorithms, and logical protocols.
- Experience simulating and implementing fault-tolerant quantum protocols.
- Ability to adapt quantum error correction techniques to hardware limitations.
- Background in compiling quantum algorithms for fault-tolerant execution;
- Research publications in quantum error correction or related areas.
- Experience with quantum computing frameworks and system-level optimization.
Additional Information:
- Candidates must meet U.S. export control regulations, which include being a U.S. citizen or permanent resident or obtaining a U.S. export license.
- Compensation ranges from $136,000 to $212,800, depending on location and experience. Total compensation may also include equity, signing bonuses, and comprehensive benefits
