Quantum Research Scientist, Pathfinding

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Research Scientist, Pathfinding. Locations: Goleta, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Mountain View, CA; San Francisco, CA

Google Quantum AI's long-term goal is to build a fault-tolerant, large-scale quantum computer to solve problems that classical systems cannot handle; Your contributions will be key in pushing forward simulations and algorithms in physics, chemistry, and material science.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and explore potential applications for near-term quantum processors
  • Create and refine numerical and computational approaches for quantum dynamics
  • Design and optimize experimental protocols and implementations;
  • Analyze experimental data and develop error mitigation strategies;
  • Collaborate with both internal and external research teams
  • Contribute to scientific publications and the wider quantum research community

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Quantum Information Science, or a related field
  • Strong background in quantum phenomena and numerical problem-solving;
  • At least three peer-reviewed publications in quantum computing, simulation, or many-body physics

Preferred:

  • Experience leading or contributing to quantum research programs (e.g., many-body physics, quantum chemistry)
  • Familiarity with quantum error correction, fault tolerance, and noise mitigation
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and classical simulations of quantum systems

Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $166,000–$244,000 (depending on location and experience)
  • Bonus + equity + full benefits included;
  • Specific salary details will be provided during the hiring process

Additional Notes: Applicants in Los Angeles County will be considered fairly under the Fair Chance Ordinance and California Fair Chance Act; You may select your preferred location among the four available cities during the application process
