Job Title: Research Scientist, Device Theory, Quantum AI. Location: Cambridge, MA, USA; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Mountain View, CA, USA; Goleta, CA, USA; Seattle, WA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA - Remote eligible within the United States
You will simulate quantum gates and readout processes, include realistic environmental noise, and collaborate with hardware and measurement teams to improve Quantum Processing Unit performance.
Responsibilities:
- Simulate single- and two-qubit gates and readout processes for superconducting qubits.
- Incorporate realistic environmental noise such as thermal, flux, and charge noise into models.
- Model constraints from AQFP control hardware, including amplitude and timing resolution, limited bandwidth, pulse distortion, and crosstalk.
- Propose and analyze new gate and readout methods compatible with AQFP electronics;
- Collaborate with hardware design and measurement teams to identify and model error sources.
- Develop strategies to improve overall Quantum Processing Unit performance.
- Contribute to the research community through publications and collaboration with academic and research partners.
- Manage research timelines, deliverables, and large-scale experiments.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in quantum computing;
- Experience working with superconducting qubits.
- At least one scientific publication submitted to conferences, journals, or public repositories.
Preferred:
- Experience with Circuit Quantum Electrodynamics, transmon qubits, fluxonium qubits, tunable couplers, or flux and charge noise analysis.
- Understanding of two-qubit gate modeling and qubit readout modeling.
- Experience with collaborative software development.
- Experience collaborating with experimental quantum hardware teams.
Compensation:
Base salary range for US locations: 141,000 USD to 202,000 USD per year.
Compensation may also include bonus, equity, and additional benefits. Final pay depends on location, experience, and qualifications.
