Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, Numerical Modeling, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, apply, and scale noise learning and Quantum Characterization, Verification, and Validation (QCVV) methods to build predictive models of coherent and incoherent errors in superconducting qubits.
  • Leverage high-performance computing resources to run simulations and perform numerical optimization in support of noise learning.
  • Guide or directly contribute to software packages that support simulation, error analysis, and modeling efforts;
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to support device characterization and error mitigation, including designing calibration experiments and analyzing experimental data.
  • Extend noise learning techniques to Quantum Error Correction (QEC) experimental contexts and integrate inferred error metrics into logical error budgets.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of theoretical and numerical models for superconducting qubit-based processors.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Quantum Information, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in theoretical quantum physics;
  • One or more scientific publications in conferences, journals, or public repositories (e.g., Physical Review, AAAS, Nature, npj).

Preferred:

  • At least 2 years of coding experience.
  • Experience in numerical physics and scientific/high-performance computing.
  • Familiarity with quantum error correction methods.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $147,000–$211,000, depending on role, level, and location.
  • Additional compensation: bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits;
