Scientist, System Qubit Calibration

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist, System Qubit Calibration, Benchmarking, and Modeling. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

Job Type: Research Fellowship / Full-Time (Research Scientist Role)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain software systems for calibrating, controlling, and stabilizing multi-qubit quantum processors.
  • Design and implement protocols for system-level qubit calibration and performance optimization.
  • Build and maintain software tools for benchmarking, analyzing, and debugging multi-qubit systems;
  • Improve and maintain production-grade Python codebases used beyond the immediate research team.
  • Collaborate with processor design and fabrication teams to integrate experimental findings into hardware design improvements.
  • Conduct large-scale experiments to test and validate quantum computing architectures.
  • Contribute to research publications and share findings with the wider scientific community;
  • Work at the intersection of quantum computing, software engineering, and machine learning to improve system stability and performance.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of research experience in quantum information science or quantum technology;
  • Evidence of research output such as publications, conference submissions, or public repositories.
  • Strong experience in Python programming in collaborative environments.
  • Experience with experimental superconducting qubit hardware calibration;
  • Experience in benchmarking and modeling quantum hardware systems.

Preferred:

  • Strong background in system-level quantum hardware calibration and stability optimization.
  • Experience working with multi-qubit superconducting processor systems.
  • Familiarity with large-scale experimental quantum computing systems;
  • Ability to bridge software engineering and quantum hardware research effectively.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary research and engineering teams.
