Job Description
Job Title: Senior Quantum Engineer, Readout. Location: Berkeley, California, USA
You will lead advanced experimental work to improve measurement speed and fidelity while collaborating closely with theory, hardware, and chip design teams; Your work will directly support Rigetti’s roadmap toward fault-tolerant quantum computing systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead superconducting qubit measurements to characterize dispersive readout in quantum circuits
- Design and implement novel measurement techniques and pulse optimizations to improve readout speed and fidelity
- Integrate new methods into Rigetti’s Python-based calibration and characterization software;
- Collaborate with theory and simulation teams to build and validate models describing readout performance
- Specify and guide improvements to quantum chip layouts, signal lines, and readout electronics
- Work closely with hardware and device design teams to implement and test new designs;
- Develop protocols to accelerate circuit execution, including reset, mid-circuit measurement, and ancilla readout
- Enable techniques required for error-correcting codes and fault-tolerant system operation
Qualifications:
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- At least 2 years of industry or postdoctoral experience
- Deep expertise in circuit quantum electrodynamics, with a strong focus on dispersive readout;
- Proven experience performing measurements on quantum systems and explaining results using theory or simulation
- Hands-on exposure to superconducting qubits in academic or industrial environments
- Experience with software development in an industry setting
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, or Rust;
- Experience with low-level pulse optimization for quantum gates or readout
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience working on fault-tolerant quantum systems or prototypes
- Background in signal chain optimization and amplifier performance
- Familiarity with quantum device layout and readout electronics design
Compensation and Benefits:
Base Salary: $170,000 to $200,000 per year
Final compensation depends on experience, skills, and geographic location. Rigetti offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
- Competitive salary and equity
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
