Job Description
Job Title: Sr. Security Engineer, AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Location: WA, Seattle, CA, Pasadena
This role supports the security of advanced quantum research environments at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena. The job requires one to two days per week on site and focuses on building and managing security measures that protect labs, scientific equipment, sensitive hardware, and AWS infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a full threat model and security plan for research spaces
- Lead security operations across academic, corporate, and industrial labs
- Run security projects that protect employees, facilities, scientific systems, and cloud environments
- Create and document security workflows and policies for laboratory operations
- Work with internal and external partners to meet Amazon security standards;
- Review software lifecycles on scientific equipment and reduce physical and logical risks
- Perform regular reviews of software baselines, network activity, and internal system behavior
- Manage security reviews for internal, customer-facing, and third-party applications
- Maintain accurate inventories of sensitive hardware and software;
- Audit equipment and software with AWS security engineers before deployment
- Support export control compliance requirements for all candidates and workflows
Qualifications:
- Experience troubleshooting systems, analyzing logs, and automating tasks using command line tools
- Strong background in identifying security risks and developing mitigation plans
- Scripting and programming experience with security code review in common languages;
- Understanding of industry security vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and remediation approaches
- Experience serving as a mentor, team lead, or technical lead
- Degree or equivalent experience in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, informatics, or related fields
- Hands-on experience with threat modeling, risk analysis, design reviews, and security testing
- Strong understanding of threat detection, response, and recovery practice;
- Familiarity with access control systems and physical security components
- Experience supporting security at research labs or data centers
Preferred:
- Experience applying threat modeling or similar risk identification techniques
- Knowledge of securing microservices, service-oriented architectures, and web services
- Interest in quantum technologies and scientific R and D environment;
- Ability to develop and deliver security training programs
- Strong written communication skills for simplifying complex security topics
- Experience in crisis operations, risk management, and business continuity;
- Experience managing daily tactical work while supporting long-term security planning
Benefits/Instructions:
- Base salary range is about 143,300 USD to 247,600 USD depending on location and experience
- Total compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, medical and financial benefits
