Staff Software Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Software Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

As a Staff Software Engineer on our OS/Platform team, you will design and operate a high-performance observability and data acquisition platform to support both on-premises quantum data centers and PsiQuantum’s AWS infrastructure; You will build scalable pipelines, automation, and monitoring systems that enable product teams to deploy and operate services with confidence, speed, and security.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, document, and implement a framework for observability, including logs, metrics, and traces.
• Develop high-throughput pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and storage;
• Build API services and integrations for monitoring and device communication.
• Optimize pipeline performance in low-latency, high-bandwidth environments.
• Collaborate with calibration, infrastructure, and data engineering teams on deployment and schema needs.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, and visualization tools for observability;
• Ensure compliance, security, and scalability across cloud and on-premises systems.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents and work cross-functionally to identify root causes.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience designing and operating infrastructure with Terraform (or similar) and Kubernetes.
• Strong Python development skills with focus on automation and tooling;
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven success deploying observability stacks such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or Tempo in production environments.
• Working knowledge of AWS services and networking;
• Experience with Kafka preferred.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulated industry requirements.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

• U.S. Base Pay Range: $190,000 - $215,000
• Bay Area Pay Range: $220,000 - $245,000
• Equity and benefits included as part of total compensation;
• Actual compensation may vary depending on qualifications, location, and business needs.
