VP, Quantum Computing Product Marketing

Job Description

Job Title: VP, Quantum Computing Product Marketing. Location: Bothell, Washington, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Define and own IonQ's overarching Quantum Compute narrative and messaging architecture.
  • Maintain consistent messaging across customer, partner, analyst, investor, executive, sales, marketing, and communications engagements.
  • Lead launch strategy, messaging, and content for major Compute products and technical milestones.
  • Translate IonQ's technology roadmap into clear, differentiated, market-ready storylines.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment so product launches support one unified market narrative;
  • Own the Compute division's share-of-voice strategy, including events, campaigns, creative initiatives, and communications.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape and turn market intelligence into positioning, priorities, and strategic recommendations.
  • Present marketing strategy and competitive insights to executives and act as a trusted partner to Compute leadership.
  • Establish guidance for communicating complex quantum concepts with technical accuracy and market credibility.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Creative to determine how the Compute story is expressed.
  • Work closely with product management and engineering teams in a milestone-driven environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-product marketing and communications teams on shared narratives.
  • Define the operating model, governance structure, and hiring plan for Compute marketing;
  • Build the Compute marketing function from the ground up, growing it into a team of two to five people within the first 18 months.
  • Establish a unified narrative across Executive Leadership, Product, Sales, Marketing, and Communications within the first 6 to 12 months.
  • Support major launches with clear claims and coordinated execution rather than isolated announcements.
  • Help leadership develop a stronger understanding of market narratives, competitive dynamics, and emerging category opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in B2B technology marketing, product marketing, or category strategy.
  • Significant leadership experience in technically complex markets where the category was still being defined.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate frontier or scientifically complex technologies into compelling stories for broader audiences.
  • Experience working closely with product, engineering, and science teams to understand complex technologies.
  • Proven ability to present to, advise, and influence senior executives on market narrative, launch strategy, and competitive positioning.
  • Experience developing market share of voice through integrated campaigns, events, content, executive communications, and creative initiatives.
  • Strong product orientation and experience working with product management and engineering in milestone-driven environments;
  • Experience building or defining a marketing function rather than simply inheriting an established team.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Portfolio demonstrating executive-level messaging, product launches, and thought leadership personally shaped by the candidate.
  • Ability to challenge product and messaging decisions and push beyond the status quo.
  • Comfort working in a high-growth environment where the market is still being educated and the category narrative is evolving.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in quantum computing or another frontier technology field.
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure, AI and machine learning, high-performance computing, semiconductors, advanced computing, scientific instrumentation, biotechnology, aerospace, or another deep technology market;
  • Experience working with scientists and engineers on highly technical products.
  • Experience building a marketing organization from the ground up.
  • Experience establishing category leadership for an emerging technology market.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $200,000 to $350,000 USD.
  • Compensation varies based on education, qualifications, experience, location, market data, and internal equity.

Other Information:

  • Work arrangement: Hybrid.
  • Travel: 15% to 20%.
  • The role is based at IonQ's U.S. headquarters near Seattle.
  • The position requires collaboration across product, science, engineering, applications, sales, executive, marketing, and communications teams.
  • IonQ states that it does not require prior quantum experience for this role;
  • The position involves access to technology subject to U.S. export control and government contract restrictions.
  • For U.S. non-technical roles, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee. The posting also describes additional export-control requirements for technical roles.
