Advanced Computational Scientist

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Advanced Computational Scientist. Location: Broomfield, CO / Brooklyn Park, MN / Golden Valley, MN / Albuquerque, NM

Quantinuum, the world’s largest integrated quantum company, is seeking a Senior Advanced Computational Scientist to support the development of numerical tools and modeling techniques for trapped-ion quantum computers.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain numerical tools to enable advanced features of trapped-ion quantum computers;
  • Develop methods and algorithms for surface-electrode ion trap design using electrostatic modeling and nonlinear optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with commercial and experimental teams to drive research and technology development.
  • Build project plans to deliver numerical tools aligned with broader commercial strategies.

Qualifications:

  • PhD completed prior to start date.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-PhD experience in applying physical principles to optimization problems or numerical simulation.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or granted asylum/refugee status);
  • Must not be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (per U.S. national security requirements).

Preferred:

  • PhD in applied mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing numerical tools for complex physical systems;
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques such as convex optimization, genetic algorithms, or optimal control theory.
  • Proficiency in compiled programming languages (C, C++, Fortran, Rust).
  • Hands-on experience with BEM/FEM modeling, HPC clusters, GPU computing, or parallel computing techniques.
  • Strong background in integrating compiled libraries with Python (ctypes, f2py).
  • Track record of publications, patents, open-source contributions, or conference presentations.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.

  • Salary: $140,000 – $175,000 annually (non-incentive eligible).
