Research Scientist, Silicon Qubits

Job Description

Job Title: Lead Research Scientist, Silicon Qubits. Job Location: Los Angeles, California, USA

You will work at the intersection of quantum hardware, software, and control systems, bridging research and engineering to deliver impactful results; Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be key to turning your scientific insights into usable software tools and performance improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement the research strategy and objectives in collaboration with department leadership.
  • Conduct cryogenic measurements and characterization of quantum dot-based qubits.
  • Develop and test new control protocols for tuning and optimizing single and two-qubit gates;
  • Lead efforts to build scalable routines for processor-wide optimization, including crosstalk and defect mitigation.
  • Oversee real-time retuning protocols to maintain peak system performance.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables for the Boulder Opal product.
  • Prepare clear documentation and present research findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in tuning and characterizing quantum dots.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods, optimization, and statistical learning;
  • Proficiency in programming and developing control or measurement software (Python, C++, Rust).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research teams and coordinate across disciplines.
