Job Description

Job Title: Microwave Design Engineer, Amazon Center for Quantum Computing. Location: Pasadena, California, USA

Job Type: Full-Time, Applied Scientist (Onsite)

Responsibilities:

• Design and validate microwave hardware for cryogenic quantum processor systems.
• Develop microwave signal conditioning solutions for quantum computing systems operating at cryogenic temperatures.
• Work across the full hardware development cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Solve complex technical challenges across cryogenic signal chain systems;
• Collaborate with quantum device, test and measurement, hardware, and theory teams to define system requirements.
• Conduct design and test reviews and contribute to technical decision-making.
• Develop cost-effective and high-performance hardware solutions for quantum processors.
• Research enabling technologies to support large-scale quantum computing systems.
• Define and maintain operational and engineering standards.
• Work in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
• Experience with microwave test equipment and automated test development.
• 4+ years of experience designing cryogenic microwave components and systems;
• Proficiency in microwave and mechanical CAD tools such as HFSS, ADS, MWO, Altium, COMSOL, or SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability, including machining tolerances and material constraints.

Preferred:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics.
• Experience designing parametric amplifiers.
• Hands-on experience operating dilution refrigerators.

• Annual salary range: 142,800 USD to 193,200 USD (location-based).
