Job Description
Job Title: Microwave Design Engineer. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States
The role focuses on the design and development of advanced microwave circuits for quantum computing systems; You will work on innovative circuit architectures that power Josephson parametric devices, including quantum-limited amplifiers and isolators.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop microwave filters for use with traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs) and resonator structures for Josephson junction devices.
- Contribute to the creation of novel readout chains that enhance the performance of IBM’s quantum computing systems.
- Work on superconducting circuit design, modeling, and testing to improve system stability and efficiency;
- Apply non-linear microwave principles to develop and optimize parametric circuit devices;
- Use industry-standard tools such as Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, Cadence/Clarity, COMSOL, and Python/Jupyter notebooks for design and analysis.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and developers to integrate microwave designs into operational quantum systems.
- Communicate technical ideas clearly through written documentation and presentations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Strong experience in RF/microwave filter design, including notch filters, bandpass filters, and diplexers;
- Hands-on expertise in electromagnetic modeling, circuit layout, and simulation tools such as ADS, EMPro, Ansys HFSS, and COMSOL.
- Proficiency in using test equipment like vector network analyzers.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- Experience with superconducting filter design and cryogenic circuit performance;
- Strong understanding of non-linear microwave concepts and parametric device behavior.
- Programming experience in Python or Jupyter Notebooks.
Benefits:
IBM offers a competitive total rewards package that includes:
- Comprehensive healthcare benefits covering medical, dental, vision, and mental wellness.
- Financial programs such as 401(k), employee stock purchase plan, financial counseling, life insurance, and performance-based incentives.
