Business Manager - Engineering

Job Description

Job Title: Business Manager, Engineering. Location: Bothell, Washington, College Park, Maryland, Remote - USA.

This role supports the Worldwide Engineering team and reports to the Executive Vice President of Engineering; The position focuses on operational strategy, planning, execution, and business systems support.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Operations

  • Work with the EVP of Engineering and engineering leaders to set strategic plans, OKRs, and roadmaps.
  • Track progress toward goals and highlight areas needing improvement;
  • Build and manage the rhythm of business, including recurring meetings, reviews, and reporting cycles.
  • Lead annual and quarterly budget planning for the engineering organization;
  • Prepare reports on engineering performance, progress, and key metrics.

Process and Program Management

  • Improve business processes, workflows, and tools to support quality and efficiency.
  • Drive key engineering programs and projects to deliver on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with finance, HR, and talent acquisition;
  • Help engineering managers with workforce planning, capacity management, and resource allocation.

Team and Communication Support

  • Support training needs, team development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Plan internal communication events such as all-hands meetings and town halls.
  • Lead and support special projects as assigned by the EVP of Engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Ten or more years of experience in business operations, program management, or a related role in a technology or engineering organization.
  • Experience reporting to senior engineering leadership;
  • Strong understanding of software or hardware development lifecycles and agile methods.
  • Proven experience managing budgets and working with financial data.
  • Strong project and program management skills with a history of delivering complex work.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with close attention to detail.
  • Experience using project management tools such as Jira or Asana and business intelligence platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple priorities.

Preferred:

  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Experience in an industry or product area relevant to IonQ;
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern technology stacks.
  • Certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master.

Compensation:

Approximate base salary range: 147,336 to 192,901 USD; Total compensation includes base salary, bonus, and equity; Benefits include medical, dental, vision, matching 401K, unlimited PTO, paid holidays, parental leave, legal insurance, home internet stipend, and pet insurance. Additional Requirements:

This role is subject to U.S. export control laws; Employment may require confirmation of U.S. Person status or licensing approval; This position also requires compliance with government contract restrictions.
