Chief Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Chief Engineer. Location: Bothell, Washington, United States (Remote or Hybrid)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical engineering development of a quantum product, guiding it from inception through to new product introduction.
  • Collaborate with program and product management teams to convert business goals into actionable development plans.
  • Support company-wide objectives and milestones related to technology and system development.
  • Work across multiple disciplines, including mechanical systems, software, optical systems, control electronics, and more, to maintain a unified technical approach.
  • Oversee phased gate development and participate in gated reviews;
  • Conduct technical risk management and develop strategies for risk mitigation;
  • Serve on the product change control board and guide iterative product design cycles, trade studies, and decision-making processes.
  • Lead annual roadmap reviews and adjust the product strategy based on emerging technologies;
  • Provide technical insights and updates to senior management, prioritizing initiatives and escalating roadblocks;
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering career development and supporting a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering, with a proven record of delivering complex systems and products.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing cross-functional teams in a technology-driven environment;
  • Expertise in engineering design and analysis across a range of disciplines, including mechanical, optical, electrical, and software engineering.
  • Proven experience in developing first-of-a-kind systems, with expertise in areas such as thermal, structural, electrical engineering, and micro-device fabrication.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across teams;
  • Ability to travel 2-3 weeks per quarter.
