Job Description
Job Title: Metrology Engineer (On-Site). Location: Albany, NY. Level: Mid-Level
This position focuses on advancing measurement techniques, collaborating with partners, and contributing to the innovation of photonics & semiconductor metrology processes.
Responsibilities:
- Define, develop, and implement inline metrology flows for monitoring key materials and device parameters across various technology platforms.
- Improve and innovate metrology protocols to achieve higher resolution and enable new types of measurements.
- Coordinate with offline metrology and failure analysis partners for experiment execution and reporting;
- Work closely with external analysis labs and metrology tool vendors to create advanced measurement and analysis methods.
- Collaborate with internal software and data analysis teams to improve data quality and enable better modeling and decision-making.
- Stay current on advancements in metrology and failure analysis related to photonics and semiconductor fabrication.
- Contribute to tool selection and procurement by defining specifications and evaluation criteria;
- Support continuous improvement of metrology infrastructure and capabilities within the fabrication process.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Nanoengineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience developing inline metrology flows for photonics or semiconductor chip fabrication.
- Experience working in a foundry environment with integrated photonics or semiconductor processes;
- Hands-on experience with several metrology techniques such as SEM, TEM, AFM, ellipsometry, XRR/XRD, SIMS, and Raman spectroscopy.
- Proven track record of innovation and process improvement in photonics or semiconductor metrology.
- Experience managing external partners, including foundries, labs, and tool vendors;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork mindset.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Preferred:
- Over 6 years of experience in metrology for photonics or semiconductor fabrication.
- Experience with multiple material systems, such as silicon, dielectrics, electro-optic materials, and III-V compounds.
- Knowledge of metrology development for ultra-low loss photonic components;
- Prior ownership or management of metrology and characterization tools;
- Experience in fabless semiconductor or photonic companies.
