Quantum Hardware Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Hardware Engineer. Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States

You will work with an interdisciplinary team and help run experiments that move IBM’s quantum systems forward.

Responsibilities:

• Support the mechanical design and fabrication of hardware for quantum systems.
• Prepare samples, operate lab equipment, and run measurement tools;
• Collect and analyze data to support ongoing experiments.
• Assist senior engineers and researchers with daily lab tasks and setup work;
• Help characterize mechanical and electrical components using relevant tools and methods.
• Contribute to the build, test, and improvement of quantum device hardware.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, or applied physics.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems independently.
• Strong attention to detail and a growth mindset;
• Ability to communicate and work well in an interdisciplinary team.

Preferred

• Experience working hands-on with lab equipment.
• Skill in creating CAD models for mechanical parts.
• Machining or mechanical workshop experience;
• Experience with tools such as optical microscopy or scanning electron microscopy.
• Programming experience, especially with Python;
• Experience using HFSS, circuit simulation tools, or microwave simulation tools.
