Hardware Lab Generalist

Job Description

Job Title: Hardware Lab Generalist, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

You’ll be responsible for assembling, integrating, calibrating, and troubleshooting high-performance hardware systems, including cryostats and electronic instrumentation; Working hands-on with technical drawings and schematics, you will play a key role in turning our research designs into working prototypes and production-level systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, install, and integrate electronic components, sub-assemblies, racks, and cryostats based on technical documentation.
  • Calibrate, test, and troubleshoot electronic instruments and components using tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators.
  • Conduct electrical testing including continuity checks, signal path verification, and performance assessments;
  • Identify and resolve hardware, software, and system-level issues;
  • Maintain detailed records of all calibrations, tests, configurations, and integrations.
  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, SOPs, and assembly guides.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to support system development, testing, and deployment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent practical experience in a relevant technical field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with:
    • Laboratory safety protocols (chemicals, lasers, high voltage);
    • Mechanical metrology (calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, etc)
    • Electrical metrology (multimeters, oscilloscopes)

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience in:
    • Vendor management and procurement of lab/electromechanical components
    • PCB and FPCB rework (soldering, desoldering, crimping);
    • Fabrication techniques (laser cutting, 3D printing, drill press, band saw)
    • Integration of complex systems (optical, audio, compute, video)
    • Troubleshooting and failure analysis
    • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation (drawings, schematics, SOPs)
