Quantum Integrated Circuit Designer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Engineer, Quantum Integrated Circuit Designer. Location: Berkeley, CA

You will work on developing simulation tools, building circuit models, and collaborating closely with fabrication and experimental teams to bring quantum processor designs from concept to reality.

Responsibilities:

• Design, layout, and simulate superconducting microwave integrated circuits for quantum processors.
• Build CAD models and perform simulations using commercial software such as HFSS, COMSOL, or CST.
• Use custom Python or Julia-based tools to model quantum system dynamics;
• Collaborate with fabrication and experimental teams to test and refine circuit architectures.
• Contribute to improving Rigetti’s quantum hardware simulation tools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of DC and RF circuit theory and analysis;
• Proven experience in microwave engineering and electromagnetic solvers (HFSS, COMSOL, CST).
• Solid programming skills in Python for scientific modeling;
• Strong mathematical foundation, including linear algebra and analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Physics.
• Experience with 2D CAD tools for circuit layout and GDS file formats;
• Familiarity with gdspy or similar tools for automated layout design.
• Knowledge of circuit quantum electrodynamics and quantum mechanics;
• Background in semiconductor fabrication processes or quantum device modeling.
• Contributions to open-source projects or industry/startup experience.
