Materials & Process Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Materials & Process Engineer: PCB, Flexible cables, Interconnect. Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA (Hybrid)

Responsibilities:

• Develop materials selection and manufacturing processes for PCB, flexible cables, and interconnect components used in cryogenic quantum devices.
• Collaborate with outside suppliers and manufacturing partners to develop and validate custom hardware solutions for quantum systems;
• Create and document validation test plans with pass/fail criteria aligned with hardware performance targets;
• Identify integration challenges and facilitate ongoing quality improvements within hardware systems;
• Conduct failure analysis, providing root cause data for iterative design and process improvements.
• Work closely with internal teams (electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and physicists) and external suppliers to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• BS or higher degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
• Strong understanding of PCB, flex design, fabrication, and RF/microwave engineering fundamentals;
• Proven experience in hardware R&D from concept through prototype and low-volume manufacturing;
• Hands-on experience in identifying and resolving defects and process control issues in PCB, flex, and related DC/RF components.
• Familiarity with low-temperature measurement and superconducting materials is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
