Job Title: Quantum Systems Mechanical and Cryogenics Engineering Manager. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA
Job Type: Full-Time, People Manager, Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organization spanning Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, and Physics teams across internal and external partners.
- Own lifecycle management of cryogenic refrigerator systems, including upgrades, reliability, maintenance strategy, and global operational standards.
- Establish and scale engineering infrastructure, including mechanical workshops, CAD workflows, thermal and structural simulation systems, and product data management tools;
- Define and enforce mechanical engineering standards, including design reviews, configuration control, reliability engineering, and design for manufacturing practices.
- Drive mechanical architecture, modeling, and simulation in collaboration with system architecture, theory, experimental systems, instrumentation, readout, and control teams.
- Provide technical leadership across teams, resolve engineering conflicts, and contribute to strategic program planning and execution.
- Innovate test and validation methodologies to improve system performance and reliability;
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years experience, or Master’s with 6+ years, or PhD with 3+ years in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics, or related field.
- Strong background in engineering, product development, or technical program management;
- Experience in mechanical systems, cryogenic systems, or precision experimental platforms.
- Ability to work in secure environments and pass required background checks.
- Experience using AI tools for engineering analysis, modeling, and automation workflows.
Preferred:
- Experience in technical leadership for complex hardware systems.
- Experience leading full engineering development cycles, including design, prototyping, validation, and iteration.
- 5+ years experience in people management and team leadership;
- Strong background in cryogenic systems and refrigeration platforms, including performance optimization and lifecycle management.
- Experience in mechanical design for extreme environments such as cryogenic, vacuum, or vibration-sensitive systems.
- Proficiency with CAD, thermal and structural simulation tools, and product data management systems.
- Experience with design for manufacturing and reliability engineering at scale.
- Experience managing distributed or multi-site engineering teams.
- Familiarity with quantum systems or advanced experimental research platforms.
