Mechanical/ Cryogenic Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Mechanical/Cryogenic Engineer – Quantum Computing Systems. Location: Berkeley, CA (On-site)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical and thermal design of the cryogenic signal path from room temperature down to millikelvin temperatures.
  • Engineer robust mechanical structures for cryogenic cabling, filtering, attenuation, and thermal anchoring;
  • Work cross-functionally with quantum hardware, RF, and systems teams to align mechanical strategies inside dilution refrigerators.
  • Perform system-level simulations to evaluate thermal gradients, vibration effects, and mechanical stability;
  • Select and qualify components and materials optimized for cryogenic performance and durability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in mechanical system design, with a strong background in electromechanical integration.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and simulation platforms (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS).
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines in fast-paced R&D environments.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with superconducting quantum processors or other precision cryogenic platforms.
  • Hands-on knowledge of dilution refrigerators and multi-stage cryogenic systems.
  • Familiarity with cryogenic interconnect technologies, such as flex cables, coaxial lines, and cryo-compatible filters.
