Microfabrication Layout Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Advanced Microfabrication Layout Engineer. Location: Brooklyn Park, MN

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop microfabrication masks for next-generation ion traps in collaboration with the hardware design and fabrication team.
  • Collaborate across teams to maintain best practices in IC and MEMS layout.
  • Interface with foundries to ensure layout compatibility with process design kits (PDKs) and manufacturing standards.
  • Drive layout completion through to successful tapeout.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in IC or MEMS layout using Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, or with granted asylum/refugee status).
  • Must not be a national of the People's Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (per U.S. government security requirements).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
  • 5+ years of experience using Cadence Virtuoso, including layout, simulation, and PDK usage.
  • Experience in MEMS layout tools like Tanner L-Edit, K-Layout, or similar;
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and the SKILL scripting language;
  • Prior experience with photonics layout and external foundry processes.
  • Background working in cross-functional R&D teams.
