Photonic Device Designer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Photonic Device Designer. Location: Santa Clara, California, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop novel integrated photonic devices for high-speed optical interconnects and sensing systems.
  • Perform chip layout, circuit checking, and device characterization.
  • Lead prototype development, testing, and experimental validation of new photonic devices;
  • Develop and implement custom measurement methodologies and testing apparatus;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and respond to project needs or client requirements in real time;
  • Analyze test results using statistical methods and provide feedback for design improvement.

Qualifications:

  • MSEE or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in:
    • Silicon photonics design, fabrication, and testing.
    • High-speed optical components such as modulators, lasers, and detectors.
    • Optical alignment techniques and fiber coupling with waveguides;
    • Electrical/optical lab instruments: AWG, DCA, VNA, BERT;
  • Proficient with simulation and CAD tools such as Ansys Lumerical, ZeMax, Cadence;
  • Skilled in scripting and data analysis using MATLAB, Python, and Verilog-A.
  • Familiarity with modern CMOS fabrication processes is strongly preferred.
