Job Description
Job Title: Photonics & Optics Intern. Location: Broomfield, CO – On-site
Responsibilities:
- Design, simulate, and validate integrated photonic components and optical systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support light delivery and manipulation in trapped ion systems
- Build and refine experimental setups for photonic integration and validation;
- Analyze data from experiments and simulations; document and present findings to the team;
- Assist in modeling optical behavior and system-level interactions
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program (undergraduate or graduate level)
- Completed at least 2 academic years of coursework in physics, optics, or engineering;
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or refugee/asylee);
- Cannot be a national of the People’s Republic of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen (due to national security requirements)
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with lasers, polarizing optics, optical fibers, imaging systems, and photodetectors
- Research or lab experience in optics or photonics (1.5+ part-time years or 2 full-time summers);
- Experience with Python programming for data acquisition or analysis;
- Exposure to photonic integrated circuits or nonlinear optics in academic or research settings;
- Familiarity with modeling/simulation tools such as Comsol, Lumerical, RSoft, or Zemax
Compensation:
- Hourly Pay: $19 – $40
- Travel reimbursement and housing stipend for eligible non-local candidates
