Process Engineer, Packaging

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Process Engineer, Packaging. Location: Fremont, CA

As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will own critical packaging processes, work directly with state-of-the-art equipment, and contribute to the development of Rigetti’s advanced quantum devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead assembly and packaging processes including die attach, wire bonding, flip-chip attach, wafer singulation, wafer bonding, and other advanced methods.
  • Develop packaging diagrams, define tooling requirements, and support safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate on packaging development for next-generation quantum architectures and products;
  • Establish process metrics, SPC methods, and documentation for production deployment.
  • Train and guide technicians and operators in process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Analyze production failures, identify root causes, and implement process improvements;
  • Prepare specifications for new equipment, oversee installation, and qualify processes.
  • Contribute to advancing Rigetti Fab as a leading quantum integrated circuit foundry.

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Engineering or Science field (preferred).
  • 3–7+ years hands-on experience with semiconductor/MEMS packaging tools (e.g., probers, wire bonders, die attach, flip-chip, wafer bonding, die prep, SMT, underfilling, metrology tools);
  • Strong background in semiconductor fabrication; experience with superconducting materials is a plus.
  • Knowledge of silicon floor planning, package layout, thermal, mechanical, and reliability testing.
  • Experience with SPC, DOE, root-cause analysis, GR&R, and process containment solutions;
  • Comfortable working in cleanroom environments, adhering to HAZMAT and ESD safety practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SolidWorks, JMP, Google Docs; experience with Python scripting and data analysis is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to an agile work environment.
