Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quantum Applications Architect. Location: Redmond, Washington, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop algorithms and applications for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • Create innovative quantum solutions for real-world computational challenges.
  • Contribute to the advancement of scalable quantum computing technologies.

Quantum Resource Modeling and Optimization

  • Develop and utilize advanced tools for modeling quantum applications across various hardware architectures.
  • Analyze and estimate quantum resources required for application execution.
  • Apply application-aware and architecture-aware quantum circuit compilation and optimization techniques.
  • Improve performance and efficiency of quantum algorithms and workflows.

Collaboration and Technical Leadership

  • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, architects, and technical leaders across Microsoft Quantum.
  • Work closely with teams focused on qubit modeling, quantum error correction, and quantum applications.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to accelerate innovation and product development.
  • Contribute technical expertise and mentorship within multidisciplinary teams.

Innovation and AI-Driven Engineering

  • Apply AI technologies to accelerate engineering processes and prototype development.
  • Evaluate agentic AI solutions using measurable metrics and human oversight.
  • Leverage AI tools for research, performance modeling, analysis, and workflow automation.

Qualifications:

One of the following:

  • Doctorate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or a related field with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent practical experience.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of programming experience in relevant programming languages.
  • 4+ years of experience working in collaborative technical environments.
  • Experience developing commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or complex multi-component systems.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft security screening requirements.
  • Ability to work with export-controlled information subject to applicable regulations.
  • Experience applying AI tools to engineering and development workflows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field with 3+ years of industry or research experience.
  • Master's degree with 6+ years of industry or research experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of industry or research experience.
  • Equivalent experience.

Technical Expertise:

  • 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • High-performance computing
    • Quantum algorithms
    • Fault-tolerant quantum computing
    • Quantum error correction
    • Quantum simulation

Professional Skills:

  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Experience collaborating across internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary research and engineering environments.
  • Experience working independently while contributing to team objectives.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • United States: $119,800 - $234,700 per year
  • San Francisco Bay Area and New York City: $160,200 - $261,000 per year
